2)  LINTON BAY MARINA ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฆ PANAMA ASSAULT

https://safetyandsecuritynet.org/

The
owner/captain of a cruising yacht docked for one night at the Linton
Bay Marina, and was ashore having dinner at the restaurant when it began
to rain at about 2200HRS. He returned to his boat to close the hatches
and was overtaken by 4-5 men who were lying-in-wait in darkness inside.
They had already searched the boat, and immediately wrestled him to the
floor, and then held an automatic weapon to his head and began to demand
โ€œthe drugsโ€ they believed he had brought from the San Blas. Once a
phone camera was shined in his face a third party seemed to conclude he
was the wrong person.

The
captain sustained minor injuries and was warned to remain quiet and on
the floor. The men departed after about 15 minutes in their small launch
that was tied alongside. Nothing was stolen. After some time the
captain returned to the restaurant and reported the incident.

Reports
were made to the Linton Bay Marina management, the Navy/Coast Guard
(Aeronaval) and the police. The victim was told the only security
cameras at the marina were pointed at the restaurant and not the dock.

 BAR REPORT  WEEK  5-2 TO 5-7, 2022

El Salvador

Chatting with Bill in El Salvador today.

Moorings are almost full.

Compiled by La Palma Moorings.

Notes:

1
Entry is only permitted at high tide during daylight hours.
Daylight hours include civil twilight (about 40 minutes before
sunrise or 40 minutes after sunset). Morning tides are always better due
to the absence of wind waves.

Forecast:

We are on a diminishing spring tide cycle for the whole week.  Tides beginning May 5 are morning tides.

For
the forecast period the average primary swell is 4.2 feet and the
significant swell is 5.5.  Entry & exit looks good up to May 4.
The bar will be closed May 5 through May 8 due to a high swell
pushed by storms in the southern ocean.  Long term indications show
the bar will be closed until May 10.

As always, please contact Bill and Jean before arrival/departure.

6) BOCA CHICA ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฆ PANAMA
 UPDATE ON CHECK IN PROCEDURES

Boca Chica

Update: we
checked into Panama yesterday with Carlosโ€™ at Boca Chica. Carlos had us
send all our documents to him ahead of time via WhatsApp so he could
get the cruising permit done ahead of time. The officials had everything
ready when they arrived. It took probably an hour and we walked away
with all the paperwork done.

Carlos
had told us he would front the cash and we could pay him with a credit
card. He unfortunately wasnโ€™t there yesterday, but someone called him
and all was good. I will pay Carlos with my credit card today when we
have his brother take us to David.

It
seems with all the delays with the cruising permit, Carlos has figured
out how to get it done ahead of time, so people donโ€™t have to wait for
the slow delivery of the document. Itโ€™s nice to see things change for
the better.

๐Ÿฆœ๐ŸนKyrie Well good news for the posse.  Both Mango and Kyrie were
able to self check-in in Playas Del Coco, Costa Rica today.

It
was a straightforward process with very friendly officials throughout.
First go to immigration, then bring the paperwork from them to the
port captain, fill our their forms and they will issue a form to take
to Aduana (Customs) at the airport.  Take a bus or Taxi ($80 for
the taxi round trip) to the airport, get your import permit for the boat
there, and head back to the port captain.  They will finalize your
paperwork and you’re done.  For us it took from about 8am to 230pm
to get everything done.

16:26
๐Ÿฆœ๐ŸนKyrie Total cost was zero, other than the taxi or bus fare.
No boat inspections of any type, and noone other than the boat
captain need be present.  Bring all your normal paperwork plus the
serial number for your main engine.

Detailed steps including gps coordinates of all spots required to do this are here
https://goodnautical.com/costa-rica/port-of-entry/playas-del-coco

Customs Door

Go
to the arrival area security desk and ask them to call customs for
vessel check-in. The Customs officer will take your documents and copies
and return in  ~15 minutes with the forms signed.

16:27
๐Ÿฆœ๐ŸนKyrie The only problem is Customs said their system had just been
hacked, and their higher ups directed that they can temporarily only
issue boat import permits for 10 days, upon which you need to renew.
They hope to have it resolved in the next week, and be able to
issue the remaining 80 days on our import permit next week.

16:29
๐Ÿฆœ๐ŸนKyrie It did take all day, but saved us over $300 over the agent
fees.  Hopefully they will get the boat import per
mit issue fixed soon.

I
also forgot to mention that nothing at all was asked for regarding
COVID or pets.  No testing, Vax certs, or animal health certificate
or rabies certificate asked for.

Biggest
catch? Or unwanted visitor? We found this dinghy a float upside down
between San Andres and Providencia. We towed it Providencia on April 17.
We sustained damage to our boat in the hand off. ๐Ÿ˜• We really hope the
owner gets it back.

It was turned over to the Colombian Armada, we were leaving the area.

San Blas

Dec 23 we leave for San Blas it’s a nice quiet trip of 45 miles along the
coast of Panama. On the way, keep an eye out for a shoal that is only
just under water. Once arrived, the environment exceeds our
expectations. A choice of pancake islands, overgrown with palms and here
and there a hut lies in front of us. It’s like a fairy tale. So
idyllic. Here too we have to navigate well, there is only a narrow
passage in the reef. I stand in front of the point and give directions
but am distracted for a moment by a mother with baby dolphin. Jeroen is
not happy but I have to enjoy this for a while. Everything goes well and
soon our anchor is anchored in the beautiful sandy bottom in a depth of
3 meters. The ideal anchorage. I’ve been looking forward to this moment
for 2 years, and now that we’re here it exceeds all my expectations.
Everywhere I look around me I see islands like this. Some a bit bigger,
others tiny. I didn’t think the area would be so compact. We are just
sitting in the cockpit enjoying our view when a boat with a Kuna Indian
comes alongside. He offers us Molas. Those are handmade patchwork
patches. Mostly with Indian characters, but also very cheerful with
parrots and turtles. I pick 2 and an animal mask for Charlie. The next
day we go to see the islands. First a small one, against which we lie
and later a somewhat larger one. On the small one are 2 huts where an
older woman is busy with a broom. She is not very approachable and stays
away from us. After 10 minutes you are bored and we feel that the woman
is watching us. Then go to that bigger island. There are some more
huts, but they turn out to be holiday houses. When we walk there, we
notice how much waste there is everywhere. Just human waste. Cans of
bottles and especially a lot of plastic. Incomprehensible on such a
small island, you can walk around it in half an hour. So paradisiacal
and then nobody cares about that. There is hardly anyone on this island
either. A few tourists and an Indian who quickly retreats between the
palm trees. A little disappointed we go back to the boat and get ready
to join the Pitou. Tomorrow is Christmas Day and we will celebrate
Christmas together.

The Christmas party is a great success. Pitou provides a fantastic
Christmas breakfast and we take care of the meal. Our first Christmas
without our kids, and that feels a bit empty. The weather is not really
cooperating. Lots of showers and lots of wind. Then the generator that
is not working properly. Makes us restless. Soon we will make a sailing
trip of 5000 miles and the boat must be in top condition. The islands,
beautiful as they are, don’t have much else to offer. In the afternoon
we are visited by 2 Kuna women with their children. They want to come on
board and we’re okay with that. Buckets with Mola’s are towed on board.
And while I struggle through the piles of Mola’s, Jeroen is the perfect
host, handing out cookies and apple juice and trying to get in touch
with the 3 girls. We still have Stila caps and they will all get one.
When I finally have selected a few Mola’s they ask for more, such as
soap, shampoo, reading glasses, a dress and even a bottle of rum. We
fulfill almost all wishes, except the bottle of rum. Furthermore, we
cannot get in touch, partly due to the language barrier. It was a
learning experience. I think that we cruisers, these people with their
old culture, are ruining them by visiting these islands so massively
with all our riches. That feeling is reinforced when we go to another
island a day later, together with Machiel, to take aerial photos with
the drone. There are 3 young Kuna men on the island and they are drunk.
They are there without a boat so dropped off with many cans of beer. The
waste is also noticeable here. They are pushy and sassy, โ€‹โ€‹and the
atmosphere is a bit grim. When we want to leave after an hour, Machiel
misses his sharpened sunglasses. After fifteen minutes of searching we
give up and are sure that the boys have pushed back the glasses.
Unfortunately. This together with the problems of the generator have
seen it here and Pitou is also ready on the San Blas. In the afternoon
we decide to go back to the Lemon cays and the next day to Linton bay.
We will be celebrating New Years there.

14) CAPTURED “GREEN FLASH
BAHIA PANAMA, GUANACASTE  ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ท  COSTA RICA

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ GREEN FLASH

The
green flash and green ray are meteorological optical phenomena that
sometimes occur transiently around the moment of sunset or sunrise. When
the conditions are right, a distinct green spot is briefly visible
above the upper rim of the Sun’s disk; the green appearance usually
lasts for no more than two seconds. Rarely, the green flash can resemble
a green ray shooting up from the sunset or sunrise point.

Green
flashes occur because the Earth’s atmosphere can cause the light from
the Sun to separate, or refract, into different colors. Green flashes
are a group of similar phenomena that stem from slightly different
causes, and therefore, some types of green flashes are more common than
others.[1]
