4) Seasonal Weather Update
Expect very heightened SW to S swell for at least the next 10
days. Those of you in or thinking of crossing the bar in Bahia del
Sol, take extreme caution.
Yes, the bar here at Bahía del Sol is closed this week due to the
swell conditions making crossings dangerous. Bill & Jean are
able to give forecasts before you depart enroute to El Salvador.
Best to use their resources or risk having to either cruise on by
or anchor outside until it’s safe to enter.
Tropical Weather Outlook
For the eastern North Pacific…east of 140 degrees west
longitude:,,1. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms are
associated with a broad, area of low pressure located a couple
hundred miles south of,Guatemala. Environmental conditions could
support some slow, development of this system by the middle of the
week while the, disturbance moves slowly westward to the south of
Mexico., ,
Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent.,
Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.

6) Playas
de Coco, Costa Rica
Hi Everyone, Blue Oasis
here in Playas de Coco Costa Rica Tuesday May
14. We completed check in (which took 2 days).
We crossed the Bahia del Sol bar in El
Salvador successfully last Thursday evening
with Bonsai(buddy to Mariah) and 24 hours
after Mobert. Thank you to Bill& Jean for
being such amazing champions of El Salvador.
Highly recommend a stop in ES for bith land
adventures and to met Bill & Jean. I do
note that the estuary water itself isn’t
pleasant, and a strong current runs at the
marina particularly at ebb. We spent 3 weeks
in the estuary at Bahia del Sol Marina, many
boats also safely anchor out.
After a safe pilot lead exit we turned left
again ( mostly east) motor sailed/ sailed/
motored for about 43 hours straight through to
Bahia Santa Elena Costa Rica.
Amazing anchorage- not sure what it is like in
Papagayos. We had a benign crossing with no
papagayo winds. After 2 days messing around
I’m the bay. Both Bonsai and Blue Oasis headed
to cocos for checkin.
We are anchored at the sv sarana waypoint
inside all the other boats close to the beach.
Swell has been low, so no stern anchor. A few
after squalls, that thankfully cool the air.
Great swimming off the
boat, tons of nearby restaurants, bars,
groceries. The checkin process is a mystery of
back and forth to the port captain after
immigration and customs ( inside the airport)
45min $1.50 bus ride each way.
We seem to have our paperwork. We are headed
to Marina Papagayo Wed May 15 for fuel, then a
couple of stops, overnights to Golfito. Not
much wind not here at the moment. Which is ok,
as the seas are calm.
