PANAMA POSSE “PODS”
1) DAY OF THE DEAD
..
is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the
Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere.
The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for
and remember friends and family members who have died, and helping
support their spiritual journey. In Mexican culture, death is viewed as a
natural part of the human cycle. Mexicans view it not as a day of
sadness but as a day of celebration because their loved ones awake and
celebrate with them
Traditions connected with the holiday include
building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using
calaveras, aztec marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the
departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Visitors also leave
possessions of the deceased at the graves. Scholars trace the origins of
the modern Mexican holiday to indigenous observances dating back
hundreds of years and to an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess
Mictecacihuatl. It has become a national symbol and as such is taught
(for educational purposes) in the nation’s schools.
MICTLÁN
According
to the Great Nahuatl Dictionary, Mictlán means underworld, others
translate it as “place of the dead.” Different legends, visual
representations and ancient codices define Mictlán as an unknown,
dangerous and dark place, which has nine levels.
sp
DIVE INTO MYTHOLOGY
In the Mexica worldview, the Earth was considered a being that devoured the flesh of the deceased. At the time of death, the Mexica thought that they were paying off their debt
with the Earth, since when they died, they gave continuity to the cycle
of the universe. These nine levels are related to rot, fetid, cold,
damp, watery, darkness, and night. The animals related to the Mictlán
were owls, bats, worms and centipedes, which were in the service of
Mictlantecuhtli and his consort Mictecacíhuatl.
NINE MEXICA UNDERWORLDS
Itzcuintlan Place of the dogs
Tepectli monamictlan Place of the hills that come together
Iztepetl Hills of the very sharp flints
Itzehecayan Place of the obsidian wind
Paniecatacoyan Place where people fly like flags
Timiminaloayan Place where people are smitten
Teocoyohuehualoyan Where the jaguars eat your heart
Izmictlan Apochcalolca Smoke water lagoon
Chicunamictla The nine waters.

WEATHER ALERT LEAVING SOUTH SOUTH WEST ON OR AFTER FRIDAY NOV 4, 2022 FROM SAN DIEGO WILL PROVIDE GENTLER CONDITIONS FOLLOWING WINDS, MILDER SEA STATES
Start at Cruiseport Village Marina Ensenada and do your Mexico check ins 31° 51.2766′ N 116° 37.2433′ W
Once you have made it out of Ensenada without dropping to much cash at Hussong’s Cantina
For a more protective bay especially for those who wish to bash back up here is Bahia San Quintin
– the west side 30° 22.5924 N -115° 59.0887 W is more shallow and
the main bay has depth to suit all drafts – do give the entrance a
wide berth as there is shoaling south of the little peninsula
The
west side 30° 22.5924 N -115° 59.0887 W is more shallow and the
main bay has depth to suit all drafts – do give the entrance a
wide berth as there is shoaling south of the little peninsula –
this is about 110 nm south of Ensenada.
The next anchorage is a staple along the route FONDADERO SAN CARLOS Especially for those on a northbound track @ 29° 37.3596 N 115° 28.565 W This anchorage is 68 nm South of Sna Quintin – expect some kelp patches and shoaling on the northern bighthttps://goodnautical.com/mexico-pacific/anchorage/fondadero-san-carlos
Expect
to hear sea-lions on shore – this is often a waiting spot for yachts
heading north on the baja bash as they time their departures for an
early morning jump with low winds – the seas and winds will pipe up in
the afternoons – it’s a high energy crossing especially in the
afternoons
The
east coast of Isla Cedros has several anchorages; the northern
anchorage is a roadstead exposed to weather from both north and south.
Bypassing a few anchorages on the East and South of Isla Cedros ~ 50 nm south is Turtle Bay / Bahia Tortugas
27° 41.2544 N -114° 53.2545 W – a large bay with anchorage and an
enterprising dusty village where you can procure fuel albeit with
significant mark ups – the dock is left from an abandoned cannery and
the fuel station is up a hill in the center near the cellphone
tower
The
locals will try to sell you fuel from pangas or via the fuel dock –
watch these transactions and confirm quality of the fuel, volume and
pricing before accepting any transactions – the Baja Fuel Filter was
invented here for a reason so may as well use it ! You are at the
half way point towards Cabo San Lucashttps://goodnautical.com/mexico-pacific/anchorage/bahia-tortugas
The
bay at Asuncion is home to the local fishing fleet and harvesting
shellfish is one of the main sources of income for the community. The
water is incredibly clear and no discharge is allowed to be dumped into
bay in order to preserve the high quality of the abalone.
A prime spot along this coast is San Juanico / Scorpion Bay @ 26° 14.7986 N 112° 28.333 W about nm SE from Bahia Ballenas – with friendly locals and expatsIn
the mid-seventies surfers noticed the amazing waves peeling off Punta
Pequeña as the swell wraps around into Bahia San JuanicoI. The village
is host to a couple of abarrotes and restaurants and beach palapas.
Another 85 nm to Bahia Santa Maria
a major stop and wide bay with fisheries and cell signal 24°
46.133 N 112° 15.441 W
https://goodnautical.com/mexico-pacific/anchorage/bahia-santa-maria
Bahia Santa Maria
is a large crescent shaped bay which lies just south of Cabo San
Lazaro. It is defined to the north and south by rocky islands and
bounded to the east by a narrow strip of sand ridges which separates it
from the huge lagoon of Bahia Magdalena behind.
There
is no permanent settlement in Bahia Santa Maria but a dinghy ride up
into river channels at the north end of the bay reveals a cluster of
fishing shacks with brightly colored pangas tied up along the bank. From
November to May itinerant fishermen stay in the bay to fish for tuna,
jacks and dorado.
The final jump an overnight sail to Cabo San Lucas
~ 185 nm with no real stops along the way – as soon as you round the
cabe the warmer tropical air will welcomr you to Cabo San Lucas – best
not to arrive Weekendsbetween 6 and 9 AM as scores of fishing vessels
are leaving Cabo and will produce eneourous wakes and traffic. Anchor at

15) SIAN KAʼAN BIOSPHERE 🇲🇽 MEXICO “WHERE THE SKY IS BORN”
In
the Mayan language SIAN KAʼAN it means “Where the sky is born”.
This is the name of the Biosphere Reserve that is located in the south –
east of the Yucatan Peninsula, which was declared by UNESCO in 1987
“Natural Heritage of Humanity”. The Reserve occupies an area of 528
thousand 147 hectares, where they are home to hundreds of different
species of flora and fauna. Some species are in danger of extinction,
therefore the Reserve is a protected area.
How to get to Sian Kaʼan Biosphere ?
A
dirt road starts from Tulum that, following the coastline, reaches
Punta Allen. The path allows you to appreciate a wonderful landscape as
well as flora and fauna. Punta Allen is a small fishing village whose
boatmen cooperative offers various tours of the Reserve.
In Punta Allen there is a restaurant on the beach that serves snacks and refreshing drinks as well as sea dishes.
Boat
tours through the Biosphere enter the mangroves, which are home to an
enormous biological diversity, both birds and fish, crustaceans,
mollusks, etc. The tangled channels of the mangrove lead us first to the
Laguna Negra; with a lush tropical ecosystem; to finally flow into the
Caribbean Sea. The sea is turquoise blue and as it is a protected area
you will find species in the wild such as starfish, turtles and dolphins
that can be appreciated during the boat ride.
The
Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is also home to part of the second largest
coral reef in the world. Helped with your snorkel, visor and fins you
can appreciate the corals, coral fish, manta rays and barracudas.
Five
minutes by boat from the reefs are real natural pools, the Blanquizal,
where you can relax in the crystalline and shallow waters of the
Caribbean Sea, surrounded by an enchanting natural landscape.

17) CLIMATOLOGY
Every
Maritime area of the earth has Pilot Charts aka wind roses and
all of them are available for each calendar month on the panama
posse website – example below at https://panamaposse.com/nicaragua
THE IDES OF MARCH PAPAGAYO WINDS
Wind
roses are located in the center of each 5° square on the surface of the
Earth on the oceans pilot charts and are published for each month. We
have chopped these pilot charts to digestible portions into each Maritime Area. This exert above represents March for Nicaragua Pacific Coast. aka the Papagayo Wind Area.
Each
rose shows the distribution of the winds that have prevailed in the
area over a considerable period of time – think decades.
Wind
percentages are summarized for calm (center) and for the Cardinal and
Inter cardinal compass points. The arrows fly with the wind, indicating
the direction from which the wind blew. |
The
length of the shaft, measured from the outside of the circle to the end
of the visible shaft (not necessarily to the end of the last feather),
using the appropriate scale below, gives the percentage of the total
number of observations in which the wind has blown from that direction.
The
number of feathers shows the average force of the wind on the Beaufort
scale. The figure in the center of the circle gives the percentage of
calms. When the arrow is too long (over29 percent) to fit conveniently
in the 5° square, the percentage is indicated numerically on the shaft.
WINDROSE
EXAMPLE ABOVE: In this wind rose reported observations the wind has averaged as follows:
N 32 percent, Beaufort force 5
NE 11 percent, Beaufort force 4
E 8 percent, Beaufort force 4
SE 4 percent, Beaufort force 4
S 3 percent, Beaufort force 4
SW 5 percent,Beaufort force 4
W10 percent, Beaufort force 4
NW 25 percent, Beaufort force 4
THE NUMBER IN THE CENTER CIRCLE REPRESENTS CALMS ie 2 percent
SCALE OF WIND PERCENTAGES:% SCALE OF WIND

wind vanes.
2 Light
breeze 4–6 knots 1–2 ft Small wavelets still short but more pronounced;
crests have a glassy appearance but do not break Wind felt on face;
leaves rustle; wind vane moved by wind.
3 Gentle
breeze 7–10 knots 2–4 ft Large wavelets; crests begin to break; foam of
glassy appearance; perhaps scattered white horses Leaves and small

Moderate breeze 11–16 knots 3.5–6 ft Small waves becoming longer;
fairly frequent white horses Raises dust and loose paper; small branches
moved.
5 Fresh
breeze 17–21 knots 6–10 ft Moderate waves taking a more pronounced long
form; many white horses are formed; chance of some spray Small trees in

gale 41–47 knots 23–32 ft High waves; dense streaks of foam along the
direction of the wind; sea begins to roll; spray affects visibility
