🇵🇦 SAN BLAS IS OPEN TO THE PANAMA POSSE
Report from Guna Yala. It’s officially closed, but fine for non charter boats to come visit. Generally need to stay off islands with people living there. Veggie boat and other supplies come by every day or two. I expect they will open the road soon and we should come back to normal. We’ll be here for another 6 weeks or so, happy to answer any questions.

Checking out of Costa Rica at Golfito.
We spent a week at Fish Hook Marina, what a great little marina, sorta reminds you of those little marina’s along the Intercoastal waterway of southern USA. Nice restaurant and bar, really good wifi on the docks and in the restaurant and the staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. They were able to get us a car rental, help with cell service problems, and a whole slew of other things. Manny is the man! Panama Posse discount so use it! We highly recommend this Marina, and if you anchor out in front of the marina, they are just as friendly and helpful.
You can check out of Costa Rica without an agent, but it takes about 3 hours assuming you have a car. Long walks between the 3 required offices.
1. Immigration office, about 2 Kilometers from the marina. Take all your paperwork(originals) here first and make 3-4 copies of each of the following (process is faster), boat documentation/registration, passports, crew lists. They will give you 3 packets of paperwork to give to the other offices. No fee at this office.
2. Then onto Customs, another 2-3 Kilometers in the duty free zone. One of the packets is needed here. No fee here also, just sit and wait.
3. Then onto the port captains office, about 1 kilometer and close to the main shipping terminal. Here you give them another packet, and they send you to the Bank National, about a 1/2 Kilometer away, follow there instructions and eventually pay the $20 Port Captain Fee and another $5 for the bank commission. Return to Port Captains office and wait for the Zarpe to be processed.
Now your done and ready to relax with a few cold one’s.
Hope this helps. Also, we talked to a few boats that were checking into Costa Rica here and it seems its a lot less money and hassle then it was coming into the country up North.
We arrived in Boca Chica yesterday to check into Panama and find a safe spot to wait for a weather window to open up farther south.
Checking in process here in Boca Chica is pretty well run by Carlos, with everyone coming to you. Covid tests were quick, within 3 hours, $120 Then a Doctor came onboard to fill out paperwork and ask a few questions, $95.Immigration and customs, more paperwork and another $150. Port fees and then transportation for govt officials another $220 and then Mooring fees for a week at Carlos’s place, $70 includes excellent WiFi, trash and they will even run hoses out to the boat to fill water tanks if needed. Still waiting on the Cruising permit, wont get that until Tuesday, another $200, but were waiting on weather anyway. . No one even asked for paperwork on the dog, or was even concerned about her.
Mooring is smooth, little boat traffic. All in all, a great stop in a small town.
Do not try to enter from the west, its a bar crossing with breaking waves and shallow water. Best to enter at the east entrance and try to come in at high tide.
If you need to anchor up before coming into the bay, we recommend North side of Isla Gamez, NE corner of Isla Parida, little swell and calm anchorage, sandy beaches and quiet, except for the Howler Monkeys.
Cheers MV PAIRADICE
