3) The 2,000 nm Panama Posse route has a few challenges and will test you, your crew, your gear and your vessel, but unlike the Puddle Jump – the proximity to land and hundreds of anchorages and marinas provide you with plenty of “outs” and ports to mend things.โ€จSome of the more heralding stories and challenges will come from Octopus Garden, Simple Life and Paradise. โ€จโ€จThings break, rip and fall apart, Long lines, a.m.o.  – Sails, Engines, Generators, Water-makers, Standing Rigging, Running Rigging, Batteries, Solenoids, Toilets, Pumps, โ€จa.m.o.

We sail where the coconuts grow !โ€จโ€จ

โ€จ
I can’t believe I could possibly ever enjoy motor sailing, but here I am racing to get to the anchorage before sunset, but with only one engine to save fuel, etc, and trying to squeeze every bit of speed from only 8kts of wind. We’re doing 7.5k, where usually one engine alone gives us about 5.5. But hey, we’re still racing! Racing the sunset!!

6) Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica โ€จ
Getting tired of the rock and rolling of all those anchorages SE of Playa Cocos? We anchored in Puerto Jimenez a couple nights ago – very fine conditions here, no swell, no wind chop last two nights, great sleeping finally. Although anchoring is a challenge, as described in SVSerena’s book. Find a spot on the slope where depth goes from 80 to 5 feet in a few yards. The town is very plain but there are a couple good restaurants, small grocery and hardware stores. Easy beach access with dinghy, sand, no waves, lock to tree, but going at high tide is easiest. .

8) Sailing on land – one of my pet peeves – chart accuracy.

We had our Central America chip in our chartplotter and decided to check out chart accuracy – we hate to tell you –
NOT SO MUCH !
So trust your eyes – ears – depth sounder and satellite charts with OpenCPN – See the difference below at our patch through

9) Huatulco, MX
Klickitat II had a good Tpec crossing until the last 12 hours where we had 20-30 knots on the nose with waves to match – had to motor tack a bunch of times to finally get into Bahia Tongolunda. Whew! A bit of a reverse T-pecker – SSW winds, stronger than forecast by about half. But all is well aboard now with cocktails in hand! Also sailed about half – pleasant until the last part.
