1) ZIHUATANEJO 🇲🇽 SAIL FEST 22
Por Los Niños de Zihuatanejo

ZIJUATANEJO SAILFEST 2022 raises funds for the local schools and is an annual event in late February. Karen Cooper took this and many other pictures. Cruisers, crews and yachts donated their vessel’s excursions and in turn donated the raised funds to the local schools.

Meet Carol Romain the force behind the ZIJUATANEJO SAILFEST / Por los Niños

Bravo Zulu. This is a naval signal, conveyed by flaghoist or voice radio, meaning “well done”; it has also passed into the spoken and written vocabulary.

A group of cruising yachts founded this festival in 2002 as they encountered a group local indigenous children trying to study under the shade of a tree. The cruisers held a fundraiser among their fellow yachts in order to fund and build a schoolroom. After that first year cruising yachts kept coming back to Zihuatanejo and they formed the charity Por Los Niños in conjunction with locals.

San Cristobal Island Galapagos
previously named by the English as Chatham Island, is the easternmost island in the Galápagos archipelago, as well as one of the oldest geologically

The largest fresh water lake in the archipelago, Laguna El Junco, is located in a crater in the highlands of San Cristóbal, in the southern half of the island. The lake harbors a large population of birdlife, but reaching the lake requires a short uphill walk. Nearby, La Galapaguera is a breeding station and sanctuary for giant tortoises.

This island hosts frigate birds, Galápagos sea lions, Galápagos tortoises, blue and red footed boobies, tropic birds, marine iguanas, dolphins

and … swallow-tailed gulls. It has been recognized as an Important Bird Area.

San Cristobal is the most fertile island of the archipelago and is the second most populated after Santa Cruz, with approximately 6000 people

WHEN THE GPS SIGNAL FAILS

What causes loss of GPS signal?

Various uncontrollable and unpredictable factors ( e.g., atmospheric disturbances, failure of the GPS antenna, electromagnetic interference, weather change, GPS signal attack, or solar activity ) may cause GPS receivers to lose signal occasionally, even if the GPS Puck and antennas are placed in a location with an unobstructed view of the sky

NAVIGATION during Wartime
Those attacks could take the form of cyber attacks or spoofing, when a radio transmitter is used to fake a GPS signal. Russia has been one of the few countries to demonstrate its spoofing capabilities in the open, says Humphreys, of the University of Texas. Article on this subject
