nesting locations.  Presently, in the dark hours between sunset and
sunrise there are mother turtles returning to these beaches to lay her
eggs deep in the sand.

Meanwhile,
there are baby turtles hatching from the depths in other nests.
It is said that once baby turtles hatch they can spend up to a
week digging themselves up and onto the sand.

Our valiant crew made an unexpected stop in Ponce, Puerto Rico last Saturday when Lady Slipper lost her prop.

With

After
several days of hardship (see photos below) Lady Slipper and crew will
soon be back en route. The unplanned detour led to some reconfiguring,
so the plan is now to skip the stop in Jamaica and sail directly to
Panama. Fortunately, new crew member Jim Quigley was able to change his
arrangements and join the crew in Puerto Rico.

9) SEMANA 🇲🇽 SANTA MEXICO

Church

Holy
Week, also known as Semana Santa, is a busy week (or two) in Mexico and
all over Latin America.  Semana Santa is a very festive and
important time of year from both a religious and cultural perspective.
This time of year is preceded by several observances such as Lent
and Carnival, as well as an observance of a day dedicated to the Virgin
of the Sorrows, as well as a Mass marking the abandonment of Jesus by
the disciples.

Holy
Week proper begins on Palm Sunday, with the palms used on this day
often woven into intricate designs.  In many places there are
processions, Masses and other observances than happen all week.
Events are most common on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy
Saturday and Easter Sunday.  There are gatherings big and small in
just about every community marking the crucifixion of Jesus in some way
on Good Friday.  Holy Saturday is marked by the Burning of Judas,
especially in the center and south of Mexico.  Easter Sunday is
usually marked by a Mass as well as the ringing of church bells.
Mexico's Holy Week traditions are mostly based on those from
Spain, brought over with the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire.
Having said that, observances throughout the region are not
identical.  Rather, there are variations in different parts of the
country due to the differences between the evangelization process in the
colonial period and indigenous practices.

Several
locations have notable observances related to Holy Week including
Iztapalapa in Mexico City, Taxco, San Miguel de Allende and San Luis
Potosí.

Holy
Week in Taxco involves one of the most moving and impressive liturgical
ceremonies to be found in Mexico. This public procession is a
fascinating and creative religious syncretism merging both Spanish
Colonial and Mexican Indigenous traditions.

Holy
Week in Taxco has been celebrated this way since 1598.  The
ceremonies are  thought to have evolved from the amalgamation of a
particular celebration in Cadice, Spain and the indigenous Mexicans,
used to celebrating the great sacred feasts of their ancient religions.
The indigenous are said to have embraced with extraordinary energy
and fervor the public representations of the Catholic Church, combining
them with their rites and beliefs, thus producing a fascinating and
creative religious syncretism.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of
Holy Week are dedicated to the processions performed by three great
religious confraternities:

Procession San Juan de Dios

Celebrations
of Semana Santa, or Holy Week, in a place like San Miguel de Allende.
Beginning with several processions on Palm Sunday, there are processions
most days throughout the week.

These

find it barbaric, others cathartic, others exhilarating.  None the
less, people make the figures and people come to watch these figures
blow up one by one in this annual observance that is a part of Semana
Santa.

10) THE HIGH SEAS TREATY 🐟

THE HIGH SEAS TREATY

A landmark treaty to protect marine life and international waters was signed on March 5th, 2023 by nearly 200 countries.

“It’s
a relief that the treaty is finally agreed. A lot of hard work has gone
into it by a great many people over a lot of years,” says Jonny Hughes,
head of policy at the Blue Marine Foundation. “However, it is important
to realize that the treaty doesn’t protect parts of the high seas—it
simply means that this can now be done.”

https://impact.economist.com/ocean/biodiversity-ecosystems-and-resources/high-seas-treaty-a-global-deal-decades-in-the-making

Implications for the Panama Posse

  •     Fisheries regulations  The
treaty establishes rules for the sustainable management of fisheries in
the high seas, including the establishment of catch quotas and other
measures to prevent over fishing. Be aware of these regulations and
ensure they are complying with them, especially if engaging in fishing
    activities during their journey.
  •     Marine protected areas The treaty allows for the creation of marine protected areas in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
The Panama Posse may need to be aware of any such protected areas and
ensure they you are not engaging in activities that could harm the
protected areas, such as fishing or anchoring.
  •     Navigation and transport regulations  The treaty sets out rules for the regulation of navigation and transport on the high seas, including the freedom of navigation subject to certain conditions.
Panama Posse   will comply with these regulations while
traveling through the waters of any of these treaty signatory countries.
  •     Marine scientific research regulations
The treaty provides a framework for the regulation of marine
scientific research in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
    Overall,
the new high seas treaty may have restrictive implications for the
participants of the Panama Posse and to ensure that we are complying
with these new rules while protecting the ocean's resources.

11)  ⚠️ SECURITY ALERT
LAS PERLAS 🇵🇦 PANAMA

LAS PERLAS

The National Aeronaval Service (SENAN)
confirmed that on Monday night a group of four people violently
assaulted US citizens who were in a US-flagged vessel anchored in the
area near San Miguel Island. Wielding machetes and firearms they stole
cell phones, cash, and a camera.

It
is the second assault with similar characteristics in Las Perlas On
February 9, a 75-year-old man was also robbed on his sailboat with the
United States flag, when he was off the island of Espiritu Santo.

The
authorities are patrolling the area to find the criminals. "We deployed
personnel to intensify verification in ports, air and sea patrols,"
Major Walter Hernández, SENAN's head of Plans and Orders, told La
Prensa. Hernández clarified that there is still no pattern to determine
if it is an organized group or common robberies, without any connection.

Las
Perlas is the first stop for yachts after transiting through the Panama
Canal. It is also a tourist destination where hundreds of sailboats
pass with passengers who want, to visit or spend a few days in the area.

An
alert circulated among sailors anchored in the Causway: "If you are in
the Las Perlas area, we urge you to leave." “They are assaulting the
sailboats with an armed force and it is very, very sad. They are going
to affect the marketplace (plaza) badly.”

13) LAYING UP ON THE HARD OR IN THE WATER:

THE DETAILS TO CONSIDER

LAYING UP AVANT

SY AVANT  🇨🇦 Rob & Debra – Beneteau 43.5′

We’ve
had Avant offshore for a few years now and have developed a routine for
laying her up for the off season. It’s a fair amount of work, but pays
dividends in letting us come back to a vessel that’s not suffering from
mold or mildew, and hasn’t degraded (much) from the weather when we’re
away. We have set Avant up to wait for us on the hard and in the water,
and each has its unique requirements.  Preparing the boat takes a
few days, but the effort pays dividends on our return.

MOLD

Mold
is perhaps the most pernicious hazard for a laid up boat in the
tropics. If it gets a foothold, the warm, moist interior of the boat is
the perfect environment for it to grow, and it will grow everywhere, on
any surface. To forestall its growth, we clean the interior aggressively
and then spray all surfaces with a mixture of straight vinegar mixed
with a drop of dish soap per litre/quart (the dish soap is a surfactant
and stops the vinegar from beading), wipe them with a cloth wet with the
same mixture and allow the vinegar to dry in place. The ph value of
vinegar is antithetical to mold growth, and it simply won’t start where
there is vinegar on the surface. The smell is overwhelming on
application, but fades in an hour or so, and is undetectable on our
return. We also mist curtains and cushions with the same mixture, spray
liberally in the bilge, and leave a few bowls filled with just vinegar
(no soap) in various places around the boat to evaporate while we’re
away. We use at least a couple for gallons for this process.

AVANT TARP

View under the sun shade awning as we start to ‘gift wrap’ the rig with aluminum foil.

TARPS

Tarps
are used for a couple of things: to keep sun off the decks and thus
control heat, and to keep the rain off portions of the deck. We use
them, but under the tarps we do get algae on deck.

BUGS

Of
course, we live in fear of a bug infestation of some sort while away.
We buy cockroach bait (apparently the kind that comes in a tube like
toothpaste is best) and roach hotels and place them around the boat. We
use the whole tube, as this is not the place for half measures. We have
found two dead roaches and no live ones aboard on our return in the 14
years we’ve been laying up. We shudder to think how many we might have
found without the poison set out.

FOOD

The
temperatures in the interior of the boat will be extreme: in the Sea of
Cortez, interior temperatures of 140°f/60°c are typically reached daily
for a boat on the hard for weeks at a time, and 120°f/49°c for a boat
in the water. We have had cans of food explode from the heat, and an
unopened bottle of ketchup left aboard cooked in the heat to turn the
rich dark brown colour of bbq sauce. For unopened food we want to try to
keep, we get small plastic bin liner bags and after emptying and dosing
the interior of the lockers with their vinegar wipe-down, we double bag
the food in small batches and stow back in the lockers. If a can
explodes it will do so inside the bag and the mess will be contained to
the ½ dozen or so items sharing the bag with it.

PLASTIC

Items
made of plastic do not fare well. The heat and UV bake them. For items
below decks, we wet out a cloth with ArmorAll, Aerospace 303 or a
similar plastic treatment (easily found at auto stores) and wet wipe
them down. For items on deck that can’t be removed and brought below, we
treat them with protectant, wrap them in a layer of paper towel, wrap
aluminum foil over that (two layers of cheap tin foil seems to work
better than a single layer of thicker expensive stuff) and then secure
the tin foil with liberal amounts of duct tape (being very careful the
duct tape only adheres to the tin foil and not to anything under it). On
our return we find the duct tape has usually been reduced to a skeleton
of the reinforcement fabric and is easily removed.

We
also wrap winches, blocks and all other deck hardware in a similar
fashion. UV will destroy the ball bearings in ball bearing blocks.

ZIPPERS AND SNAPS

Zippers
and snaps like to corrode shut while the boat is laid up. We rub them
with cheap dollar store chapstick or lip balm (cheap lip balm is usually
a mix of waxes and petroleum oils like Vaseline) to increase the
chances they will work when we return.

ELASTIC

Elastic
will no longer be after a season of baking in the heat. Shock cords
should not be used to secure anything as they will perish. Elastic in
clothing and swimming suits may not be elastic on your return.

LIGHTNING

Grounding.
Most vessels are poorly grounded, and their grounding is ineffective
when hauled (yes, you can be struck by lightning when on the hard). You
can ground your boat quickly and simply with a set of jumper cables (or
add these to increase the grounding)

If
in the water, we buy a set of cheap but fairly thick jumper cables.
Separate into two wires. Remove one clamp from each wire, strip back a
couple or six inches of insulation and ‘fray’ the end (or keep the clamp
and clamp it to a 1’x1’ metal plate) to make a better ground connection
with the water. We attach remaining clamp to a top shroud or other bit
of metal that connects to near the masthead and throw the frayed/plated
end in the water. One cable on the port side, one cable on the starboard
side.

If
on the hard, separate cables and attach one to the top shrouds and Jack
stands on the port side, the other to the same points on starboard.

In
either case, the cables will be trash at the end of the season, as they
are not designed for continuous outdoor use. Brushing clamps with wax,
Vaseline or any other topical protectant helps them rust less and look
better longer. Even if you *think* your boat might be/is well grounded,
these jumper cable tricks will ensure/increase the protection.

We
gather up all portable and easily de-mounted electronics (hand held VHF
and GPS units, epirbs, led flashlights, portable radios, etc.) and wrap
them in paper towel, then in tin foil, then in plastic food wrap
(secured with masking tape), and then place them in the oven as a kind
of double faraday cage. We disconnect all antennas and easily unplugged
items like chartplotters, AIS, VHF, etc. and leave them disconnected and
just hanging to disrupt possible paths for lightning.

BATTERIES

Small
batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, silver cells like A76, CR2025 and CR2032,
etc.) are removed from whatever they are powering, gathered,
inventoried and given away. They won’t be any good when we come back,
and we need to know how many and of what type we will need to bring when
we return.

The
ships batteries (house and starting) we leave connected to our solar
array for charging while we’re away, to make sure power is available to
our bilge pumps. We disconnect (switch off at the panel) the shore side
charger as superfluous.

BILGE PUMPS

We
inspect and test our bilge pumps. Avant will take on a bit of water
through the mast, and other leaks may appear over the season. We want a
bone-dry bilge to keep interior humidity down. We know of several
cruisers who have had a battery die due to bilge pump pumping, and
another couple who lost their boat to flooding while on the hard (their
cockpit drains blocked and water flooded in the companionway in a
tropical storm). If your boat has a garboard plug, you can leave it out
if you’re on the hard, and if it doesn’t and the concept works for your
hull form you can consider adding one.

THROUGH HULLS

We
close all through hulls and tank vents and stuff stainless steel
scrubbies or rolled up green scrubbies in them if we’re on the hard. The
scrubbies prevent bugs from nesting in the holes. Some cruisers use
bromine tablets (for hot tubs) in their raw water strainers to
discourage growth there.

HEAD AND HOLDING TANK

We
empty the holding tank and pump in 1 – 1½ gallons or so of vinegar and a
liberal amount of Pinõl or Lysol type cleanser. Better to have that
bake in the heat than what was in there before, and a completely dry
tank will form concrete-like deposits.

SAILS AND CANVAS

Sails and canvas are removed, inspected, repaired, cleaned, and neatly folded to be stowed below.

ENGINE

Our
engine enjoys an oil change, fluid top up and wipe-down with an oily
rag before we go, and we leave the compartment door ajar so air can
circulate there too.  Many cruisers do a freshwater flush of the
exhaust as well, but we don’t bother.  Outboards are freshwater
flushed, given their annual service, and run dry of fuel before stowing
below.

FUEL TANKS

Diesel
tanks are filled to the top and treated with biocide (BioBore or
similar). Gas tanks are emptied, the gasoline given away, and the
plastic tanks are treated with ArmorAll or similar. We don’t bother
trying to ‘stabilize’ gasoline for storage, the quantity doesn’t justify
it. Jerry cans are emptied and treated with ArmorAll or similar. The
empty jerry cans and gas tanks are stored below.

PROPANE

We simply shut off the propane at the tanks.

WATER TANKS

Water
tanks are emptied. When we return, we treat them as if contaminated as
recommended in this article. The water pump (and all other breakers save
the bilge pumps) is shut off.

MOORING LINES AND FENDERS

If
we’re in the water, we double all mooring lines and add chafe guard (we
use fire hose) at all chafe points. We buy cheap children’s T-shirts
and slip them over our fenders as extra chafe guard/ UV protection,
securing them at the top end with small line or zip ties.

Even
if you have a hired ‘boat watcher’ they’re unlikely to be 100%
available to come to your aid in a storm. They may be looking after
multiple boats, or the roof may be blowing off of their house (or their
mother’s house) in the same storm that threatens your boat. You need to
be secured for a storm.

Dinghy

We
have a RIB inflatable dinghy, and some years we have been able to
secure covered storage for it at the marina or yard we’re at, which is
best. Other years we secured it to the deck upside down, inflated to
about ¾ normal pressure, spaced off the deck with dollar store pool
noodles and covered with a tarp. Protection from the sun while ensuring
its wrapping can’t hold water against the fabric are the keys to
success. If you can deflate yours and stow it below, that’s even better.

BOTTOM CLEANING

If
you store in the water, you will need to arrange for regular bottom
cleaning. The interval will be determined by local conditions. Make sure
the cleaner is reliable, has references, and sends pictures or other
proof the job is being done: we know cruisers who found their cleaners
simply cashed the payments and didn’t do any cleaning until just before
their return.

CONTACT INFO

Post
a card in the window with local contact information for your
boat-watcher (if you have one) and your contact info back home: name,
email, phone numbers.

When
we return, we find Avant fresh and dirty, needing a good wash after we
enjoy a Christmas-like morning: like an unwrapping party of all her
tinfoiled appurtenances. After some reassembly, we’re ready to cruise
another season.

crowded. Charter cats pass through here but we were always by ourselves

MONTE ALBAN, OAXACA 🇲🇽 MEXICO

Monte Alban

Monte
Albán is a large archaeological UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site in the
southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. The site is located on a low
mountainous range rising above the plain in the central section of the
Valley of Oaxaca. Located at 17°02.7833 N 096°45.9533 W

Monte Alban

The
partially excavated civic-ceremonial center of the Monte Albán site is
situated atop an artificially leveled ridge. It has an elevation of
about 1,940 m (6,400 ft) above mean sea level and rises some 400 m
(1,300 ft) from the valley floor, in an extremely defensible location.
In addition to the monumental core, the site is characterized by several
hundred artificial terraces, and a dozen clusters of mounded
architecture covering the entire ridgeline and surrounding flanks.

9) GOOD ANCHORAGE
ISLA ESCUDO VERAGUAS  🇵🇦  PANAMA

ISLA ESCUDO VERGARAS

Isla Escudo de Veraguas 🇵🇦 Panama

After
a month of enjoying some of what the archipelago of Bocas del Toro has
to offer, a nine day weather window presented itself to get to the San
Blas Islands, so we took it. We had found many really good snorkeling
areas and large areas of very healthy coral to our surprise, but the
time had come to say a temporary goodbye to Bocas. This long period of
calm seas afforded us a two day, one night stop at the island that has
turned out to be one of our favorite, Isla Escudo Vereguas. We had
wanted to stop there on our passage from Shelter Bay to Bocas, but the
conditions were far too rough.

Western Coral Reef on Isla Escudo Veraguas

Isla Escudo Veraguas  🇵🇦 Panama

The
island is fringed by a reef on most of three sides, with the west and
south sides affording good anchorage in sand. The seas were running only
about 3 feet from the northeast so the anchorages were calm, though the
diurnal winds in this area cause a chop to come from the mainland at
night. We anchored on the west side in about 27 feet of gin-clear water.
This beautiful island has dramatic underwater coral caves and drop-offs
as well as beautiful shallow snorkeling with large stands of elkhorn
and staghorn coral.

Northern Lagoon on Isla Escudo de Veraguas

Northern Lagoon on Isla Escudo de Veraguas  🇵🇦 Panama

The
island itself is equally dramatic. The south side has carved vertical
cliffs, beautiful beaches, small sea-caves and lush, overhanging
vegetation. The north side of the island is sheltered by a fringing
coral reef that protects the clear, shallow lagoons and channels from
the open ocean swell and surge. We circumnavigated the island in our
dingy within the protected confines of the lagoons, snaking our way
through the maze of channels and islets. The fish and scattered coral in
the channels can be seen in the crystal clear water from a kayak or
slow moving dinghy. We call it “dry snorkeling”. The channels were all
plenty deep for our short shaft outboard, though we did have to raise it
once over a large patch of sea grass. We loved it so much that the next
day we had an encore dingy trip before departing. If anyone has the
time fair weather to make this stop, it is well worth it.

17)  PREPARING FOR THE WORST
HOPING FOR THE BEST

DITCH BAG

https://stormtrysail.org/ditch-kit-dont-leave-home-without-it/

Last
week SY Raindancer, collided with a whale while sailing between the
Galapagos and the Marquesas.  The boat filled with water quickly
and sank.  In that time, they gathered essential items, deployed
their life raft and their dinghy.  Thankfully and incredibly, they
were rescued approximately 10 hours later.  The story is documented
here:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2023/03/20/sailboat-hits-whale-pacific-rescue/

In
preparing for the worst and hoping for the best, mariners consider what
they will take with them if they ever have to abandon their vessel this
quickly.  It is wise to keep essential safety items conveniently
at hand because, as was the case with Raindance, things can happen fast
and there may not be time to think or dig your ditch bag out from the
deep recesses of the salon locker.

There
are items to grab and there are items that people assemble in a Ditch
Bag or Abandon Ship Bag.  The list below is a guide and you may or
may not carry all of these items.  Some items may already be in a
well stocked life raft aboard your vessel.  Know your boat, your
crew, your gear and consider the following:

ITEMS TO GRAB include:

  • EPIRB and/or Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) or some sort
  • VHF Radio (Ideally fully charged because it sits in its charging cradle underway
  • Life Jackets (if they are not already on)
  • Satellite Phone (if offshore) and/or Cell Phone (if near shore)
  • Handheld GPS
  • Ditch Bag or Abandon Ship Bag
  • Water: some people keep 5 gallon Jerry jugs on their topsides
  • Bucket
  • Food: Canned Goods, bread, cheese...anything readily at your fingertips.
  • Powerful Flashlight
  • Signaling gear (Flares, sea dye, etc...)

ITEMS to pre-assemble in a Ditch Bag

  • Water: Pouches of water and/or a handheld reverse osmosis water maker
  • Some Food: Vacuum sealed, non-perishable, non-salty foods like nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, dried meat, granola bars
  • Basic Fishing Gear: Fishing hooks and line and/or spear
  • Basic Galley items: small cutting board, folding knife, spoon, lighter, cup, and can opener, plastic bag
  • Basic Signaling Gear: Small mirror, flares,
  • Crew Information and money in watertight container: copy of passports, an amount of cash and/or credit card
  • Sun Protection: Sunscreen, lip balm, hat/s, sunglasses, long sleeved shirt/s, space blanket
  • Swimming goggles can be used for eye protection and looking underwater.
  • First Aid kit and Medication
  • Duct Tape in a gallon Ziplock bag
  • Compass, Rite in the Rain pad of paper and pen also in plastic bag.
  • Extra Batteries for any device that needs batteries.
  • Cordage

BAHAMAS PARKS SHUT DOWN ONLINE PAYMENTS

Exuma
Cays Land & Sea Park has shut down online credit card payments
temporarily following concerns over fraudulent credit charges that
appeared on system users credit cards.  An investigation is
underway to discern whether this hack is in the Parks online system or
not.

The
Park uses an online registration service to reserve and collect payment
for overnight moorings and contributions that support the park system.
Multiple cruisers to the Park have recently all found their credit
cards compromised prompting them to notify the Park system.  Their
actions taken during this temporary shut down on their online payments
will hopefully make the system more secure when they open it back up.

The
cruiser reporting the fraud says credit card fraud "is a very common
problem experienced by just about everyone who has used credit cards
here."  Cruisers advise that credit cards can be compromised
anywhere from a local eatery to a grocery store to a fuel stop.

Credit
card companies will reimburse victims of fraud and replace cards.
There are also other ways to avoid credit card fraud altogether.
See this areticle for more information.

5) LIGHTNING

LIGHTNING ON YACHTS

Lightning
strikes fear into every sailor’s heart. You never feel more powerless
than you do when you hear and see a thundercloud filled with lightning
bearing down on your vessel. A ground strike, where two electrically
charged regions equalize, one in the atmosphere and one in the water or
on the ground, causes the instantaneous release of an average of one
gigajoule of energy. The heat and current can melt metal, cause wood to
explode, and will without failure strike fear in the heart of all living
things nearby. While (apparently) 90% of people struck by lightning
survive (at least according to Wikipedia), it still seems like something
one should avoid.

Short
of burying your boat in a pit, there is no sure-fire way to eliminate
the risk of a lightning strike, but here I discuss some of the ways you
can reduce the risk and reduce the potential damage in the event of a
strike.

So, what can you do? It is all about preparation and awareness.

How Can You Know It’s Coming?

There are real time lightning tracking services available. A notable free one is Blitzortung.org

BLITZORTNUNG

There are also commercial websites like WeatherBug
that track lightning and integrate lightning reports with other weather
data. Weatherbug also has an App you can load on a smartphone that can
be configured to give you ‘alerts’ (as long as you’re connected to the
Internet).

Weatherbug

You
can also get hand held or portable lightning detectors like the
Accurite 2020. These work by detecting the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP)
of lightning strikes. Typically they have a range of ~25 miles, and will
tell you if the lightning is getting closer or further away. We don’t
have one, and we can usually see and or hear a vigorous lightning storm
when it’s within 25 miles, so we’re not planning on getting one.

These
systems are all ground-based (as opposed to satellite based) detection
systems and offer good short term warning for lightning events.

For long term safety, you can try to be in places with less lightning.

Where Can You Hide?

Well,
you really can’t ‘hide’ per se, but you can seek shelter. According to
Boat US insurance claims, catamarans are struck twice as frequently as
mono-hulls of similar length, so if you’re in a mono-hull, getting close
to a catamaran offers you some comfort in knowing that the catamaran is
more likely to be the target of any lightning strike. Lightning also
prefers taller targets, so getting close to a taller (larger) boat would
also be in your favour. This is also true of buildings, trees and
landforms in general, so moving the boat anywhere there is taller
‘stuff’ will offer some protection.

You
can also try to cruise (or lay up your boat) in areas where there is
less lightning, like the strategy cruisers use to avoid hurricanes.
While lightning (unlike hurricane tracks) is not on pilot charts, and is
only sporadically mentioned in cruising guides and pilot books (and
then only anecdotally without any real scale of comparison), there is
data available from satellites gathered over years and
freely available on the Internet.

https://ghrc.nsstc.nasa.gov/lightning/data/data_lis_vhr-climatology.html

For
16 years, the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) on the Tropical Rainfall
Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite gathered data on lightning strikes
and the data is available to use on the internet. The data circles the
globe from about 40 north to 40 south. While the geographic precision of
the data isn’t great, it is certainly more than enough to paint a
picture of where lightning is terrible and where it is just bad. The
TRMM satellite has been retired and the new Geostationary Operational
Environmental Satellite (GOES) series satellites have even more
sensitive Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) instruments (since about
2017 or so), but the data is derived over a shorter period and has yet
to be collated in a readily available fashion.

According to the website:

“The TRMM LIS 0.1 Degree Very High Resolution Gridded
Climatology data collection consists of a set of gridded climatologies
constructed from individual observations made by the Lightning Imaging
Sensor (LIS) on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite
(data also at GHRC). Complex algorithms are used to estimate total
flash rate density (number of flashes per square kilometer per year)
based on the flashes observed by the instrument and the amount of time
it viewed a given area.

 This
Very High Resolution (VHR) Gridded Lightning Climatology Collection
consists of five lightning climatologies (links to data products
provided below): the full climatological mean (VHRFC), monthly (VHRMC),
diurnal (VHRDC), annual cycle (VHRAC), and seasonal (VHRSC). These
gridded climatologies include annual mean flash rate density, mean
diurnal cycle of flash rate density, and the mean annual cycle of flash
rate density with daily, monthly, or seasonal resolution.”

What
that means is you can see when and where in a given region the
lightning is better or worse, where it is absolutely terrible (the 500
hot spots), and what time of year it really begins to ‘heat up’.

LIGHTNING PREPAREDNESS

The primary preparation is ensuring your vessel is properly ‘grounded’. Grounding has two purposes:

to ensure the electric potential of the vessel is the same as
the surrounding sea, so its not more attractive to lightning than the
open ocean

to ensure there is a path to ground for a lightning strike should one occur

Proper
lightning grounding should be done as follows (according to Stan Honey,
an electrical engineer and sailor geek extraordinaire):

    “Lightning Grounds

Connect a 4 AWG battery cable from the base of your aluminum
mast to the nearest keel bolt from external ballast. If you have
internal ballast, you should install a lightning ground plate. One
square foot is recommended for use in salt water; fresh water requires
much more. Do not rely on a thru-hull or a sintered bronze radio ground
(e.g. Dynaplate) for use as a lightning ground. For additional comfort,
also run a 6 AWG wire from your keel bolt or ground plate to the upper
shroud chainplates, and to your headstay chainplate. Don’t bother with
the backstay if it is interrupted with antenna insulators. Have each of
the cables that are used for lightning ground wires lead as directly as
possible to the same keel bolt, with any necessary bends being smooth
and gradual. Given that you have grounded your mast solidly to the
ocean, your mast will be at exactly the same electric potential as the
ocean.”

  https://www.kp44.org/ftp/MarineGroundingSystems.pdf

If
you can’t find cable as specified, try to find thicker cable (i.e.
lower number). Having your mast at the same potential as the surrounding
ocean theoretically makes it no more likely a target than the
surrounding ocean.

Because
you’re likely to be mixing copper, aluminum and stainless steel in the
wiring for this grounding, be sure to use plenty of dielectric gel and
keep the connections ‘clean’ with regular inspection. They will likely
be in the bilge, where moisture will further complicate cleanliness and
hasten their demise (see this article in Practical Sailor for more on
this)

Aboard Avant, we go a step further when we lay the boat up and use jumper cables to increase the grounding.

If
in the water, we buy a set of cheap but thick jumper cables. Separate
into two wires. Remove one clamp from each wire, strip back a couple or
six inches of insulation and ‘fray’ the end (or keep the clamp and clamp
it to a 1’x1′ metal plate) to make a better ground connection with the
water. Attach remaining clamp to a top shroud or other bit of metal that
connects to near the masthead and throw the frayed/plated end in the
water. One cable port, one cable starboard.

Of
course, when your boat is hauled out, the grounding system stops
working because the keel and/or grounding plate is no longer in the
water (and in most yards is insulated from the ground by blocks of
wood). If we lay up on the hard, we separate the two cables and attach
one to the top shrouds and jack-stands on the port side, the other to
the same points on starboard.

Lightning exit

Here
is a photo of a boat that was struck by lightning on the hard. You can
see the hole in the hull and the trail the lightning burned in the
bottom paint from the exit point in the hull to the jack stand and hence
to ground. By providing better grounding and a more direct alternate
path for the charge we hope to avoid this kind of damage.

In
either case, the cables will be trash at the end of the season, as they
are not designed for continuous outdoor use. Brushing clamps with wax,
Vaseline or any other topical protectant helps them rust less and look
better longer. Even if you think your boat might be/is well grounded,
these jumper cable tricks will ensure/increase it.

While most experts say the bottle brush style ‘lightning dissipaters
such as the ‘Lightning Master™” by Forespar designed to go at the top
of the mast don’t work, we have one on Avant. I picked it up on a sale
table for less than $10, and I can attest that it does keep birds off
the masthead, and so far, we haven’t been struck by lightning. (For more
reading on them, you can see this article in Practical Sailor)

Forespar Lightning Master Static Dissipator - 151100

What Can You Do To Try To Mitigate Damage?

Aboard
Avant, when we hear a storm approaching, we gather up all portable and
easily de-mounted electronics (hand-held VHF and GPS units, EPIRBs, LED
flashlights, cell phones, tablets, computers, radios, etc.) and place
them in the oven as a kind of faraday cage. We disconnect all antennas
and power connections from easily unplugged items like Chartplotters,
AIS, VHF, etc. and leave them disconnected and just hanging loose to
disrupt possible paths for lightning.

We
also ensure all aboard stay away from the mast and rigging and any
chance of forming part of the ‘path to ground’ of a strike.

When
we lay up for the season, we do the same, and we also wrap portable
items first in paper towel and then in a double layer of aluminum foil
to make it a double faraday cage.

When
we store electronic spares aboard, we wrap them in paper towel and then
in a double layer of aluminum foil before they go in the spares locker.

In areas where lightning is endemic, we pray more frequently and sleep with a bible under our pillow.

There
is no way to make any vessel ‘lightning proof’. But you can take steps
to avoid more lightning prone areas, and to mitigate the effect of a
strike.

Well found aluminum hulled ‘expedition’ style yacht with extreme grounding in shelter bay. A ground stake wired to the keel.

Lightning rod

 On
board this catamaran a thick cable connected to the base of the mast is
deployed and attached when lightning gets near or for long term in
water storage  - on top of the mast this rig  is matched with a
sacrificial lighting rod a bit longer than the VHF antenna

rod

For
long stay in the water we also drop the anchor in the marina and cross
connect the base of the mast to the anchor chain beyond  the
windlass with heavy gauge wire(s).

Between
the years of 1966-1976, millions of viewers were held spellbound as
audiences around the world would regularly tune in to see what new
aquatic wonders had been captured on film by Jacques Cousteau and the
crew of his ship, Calypso.

The Sea Birds of Isabela
The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau Collection Two
Episode 15 of 19

Captain
Cousteau and his crew fly to Isla Isabela, off the western coast of
Mexico, to study how the many birds there share the resources of the
waters. After an extensive study, Cousteau recommends to the Mexican
authorities that the island be designated a national park.

The
blue-footed booby is a marine bird native to the eastern Pacific Ocean.
It is one of six species of  boobies. It is easily recognizable by
its distinctive bright blue feet, which is a sexually selected trait
and a product of their diet. The drastic drop in population seems to be
linked to an unexplained disappearance of sardines from the boobies'
diet. This in turn has adult boobies electing not to breed – leading to
an ongoing population decline due to lack of new chicks being born.

Bahia Del Sol

Many
cruisers enter Bahia del Sol to explore El Salvador.  There is
certainly a lot to see and experience about the way of life in Bahia del
Sol from dinghy tours into smaller channels to sampling food and
beverages in restaurants on stilts.

Bahia Del Sol

El
Salvador is a wonderful country to also explore by land as well. There
is little level land; most of the terrain is punctuated with many active
and inactive volcanoes.

El Salvador

 It
is densely populated particularly around the capital of San Salvador
and worth exploring further afield than than this big city.

El Salvador

El
Salvador is the smallest country along the Panama Posse route and has a
well developed road system that makes renting a car and driving around
the country quite easy.

El Salvador

 There
are several self guided ‘tourist routes’/rutas turísticas that link
together different regions, sights, and towns by different themes: art,
archeology, flowers, beach and sun, etc.

El Salvador

One
can see volcanos, archeological sights, artisanal communities, Spanish
colonial influence, lakes, geo thermally heated rivers, and world class
surf in a matter of day to a number of weeks or months.

Convent de la Popa Altar in Cartagena, Colombia

In
the center of the gilded altar at El Convento de la Popa is the image
of La Virgin de la Candelaria. She is shown as a Black Madonna holding a
baby Jesus and a candle in her other hand. The image is patterned after
a statue appearing on a beach in 1594 in Tenerife, one of the Canary
Islands. This shrine was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1986. An annual
pilgrimage is held on February 2, the feast day of the Virgin of
Candelaria.

 BLOWN AWAY Eileen & Brown

We
are Eileen and Brown. We have very little sailing experience. Before
leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our
earthly possessions and started our international search to find the
right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of
unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a
used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.

Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing our adventures !

LATITUDES AND ATTITUDES

https://panamaposse.com/latitudes-and-attitudes

Most
water-making equipment on yachts and boats today uses the reverse
osmosis technique for converting seawater into drinking water.

These
RO systems remove solids, bacteria, and most viruses from the water,
and the water produced is often better quality than water from a city
water supply. We all use a considerable amount of water, so fresh and
clean water is a must-have for those folks who plan to be on anchor or
away from a good water source for an extended period of time.

Today’s
yachts and boats will often have a washer and dryer on board which can
use upwards of 20 gallons of water during each washing cycle. Longer
showers, doing the dishes, freshwater toilets, and boat cleaning all add
to large amounts of fresh water consumed by today’s boating travelers.

A
good rule of thumb for water consumption is 20 gallons per day per
person. A reliable water maker, producing 20 – 30 gallons per hour, will
more than handle the requirements of 2 – 4 people on the boat. The key
word there is “reliable.” While most systems start out as dependable,
reliable equipment, neglect or improper use can soon make the system
problematic.

Two
factors can severely limit or destroy a water maker’s ability to
produce ample quantities of clean drinkable water. Those two factors
are:

Exceeding the maximum operating pressure range

Lack of proper flushing after every water-making cycle

There
are a few other aspects of operating the water-making equipment that
will improve the life of the system, but those two factors are
paramount.

16) MEET THE NEW OCEAN POSSE EDITOR

editor

Maurisa Descheemaeker at sunrise aboard SV Whirlwind

Hello, my name is Maurisa.
I am pleased to join the Ocean Posse crew and provide fun and
helpful updates to the Panama Posse.  My family and I sailed in the
Pacific Northwest for many years before turning the bow of S/V Arrow
towards where the coconuts grow.  We sailed to Panama in 2021 and
are excited to be sailing there again on S/V Whirlwind.

I
love living on the ocean, being a part of the maritime community,
visiting new places, taking in the culture, art, and history of
different areas, and anchoring in remote places teaming with plants and
wildlife with my family.  We are currently anchored in Zihuatenejo,
Mexico.

Email me at editor@panamaposse.com with photos, stories, or suggestions for these fleet update.

19)  SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS
CHIAPAS 🇲🇽 MEXICO

San
Cristóbal de las Casas is a city and municipality located in the
Central Highlands region of Chiapas.  The historic center, has
maintained its Spanish colonial layout, with narrow cobblestone streets,
roofs covered in red clay tile and wrought iron balconies with flowers.
The facades of the buildings vary from Baroque to Neoclassical and
Moorish, painted in various colors.

Diego
de Mazariegos founded San Cristóbal in 1528 as the Spanish regional
base.  Its Spanish citizens made fortunes from wheat, while the
indigenous people lost their lands and suffered diseases, taxes and
forced labor.

San Christobol De Las Casas

San
Cristóbal is considered to be the “cultural capital” of the state and a
designated in 2003 a “Pueblo Mágico” (Magical Village) in 2003, Mexcian
President Felipe Calderón recognized it as “The most magical of the
Pueblos Mágicos” and is located in a small valley surrounded by hills in
the mountains with a 2,200-meter elevation 7,218 feet gives the city a
crisp and cool climate.

DRAKE BAY 🇨🇷 COSTA RICA

Bahía Drake (Drake Bay) is a genrious bay on the north side of the Osa Peninsula on the coast of southwestern Costa Rica.

This bay is believed to be a port used by Sir Francis Drake during his raids on the Spanish Main in the 16th century and the location of one of the British pirate's fabled hidden treasures.

The bay is off the beaten track and can be reached by plane, boat, and car (ideally a 4x4 vehicle) during the dry season. Because of lack of bridges, driving to Bahía Drake is challenging and not recommended for visitors. Most of the eco lodges are located along the beach.

2) REPORT FROM
BOCAS DEL TORO 🇵🇦 PANAMA

Sloth at red Frog

The wildlife at Red Frog Marina is incredible. In 30 minutes we saw 5 adult sloths, two juveniles, two giant Iguanas and three red frogs!

Bocas del Toro 1

After waiting 4 weeks for a weather window to go to the San Blas Islands that we so enjoyed last year, we decided to hang a left from Limon Bay instead of a right and sail for the unexplored (to us) archipelago of Bocas Del Toro. We spent a week or so at the southern end, exploring Laguna Bluefield, Crawl Cay and some of the many mangrove islets, including the quiet, well protected Cayo Gallego. We then sailed up to Red Frog Marina where we are currently waiting for a parts order.

Laguna Bluefield has a few very isolated villages with very friendly children that paddle out in dug-out canoes to anchored sailboats to sell fruit, stare, hang out hope for a snack and talk a little. Since we were only one of two boats in the entire bay, we had a lot of visitors! Two boys, cousins I believe, were particularly friendly and offered to take us to a Cascada on the other side of their village. We kayaked up a meandering river and then hiked up a hill to their village and then on to the falls where we took photos and enjoyed the views. Although the strong trades prevented us from snorkeling the reefs at the mouth of this bay there are many opportunities when the weather is more settled. This gorgeous bay is not to be missed.

Bocas del Toro

Our Teenage Guide to the Falls & Joan Celebrating the Completion of our Falls Hike

Another highlight of our time here has been Red Frog Marina; part of a 1500 acre resort that has preserved most of the jungle within. The well maintained resort facilities are spread amongst this vast jungle area and are connected with gravel and brick paver roads. The variety of wildlife we have seen was surprising, including sloths, giant lizards, toucans, parrots, monkeys, and yes, red frogs! As a marina tenant we have access to the various resort restaurants, bars, beaches, activities, free water taxi to Bocas Town, and the pool that overlooks a reef fringed bay on the Caribbean side of the island. And, although we keep reading that this Bocas Del Toro is not well known for diving or snorkeling, we have found some beautiful spots!

Once we have our new our parts order, we will continue on to explore the northern portion of the archipelago!

13) ⚠️ GREASY LINES ALERT 🇵🇦 PANAMA

ALERT

FOR YOUR INFORMATION, SAILORS TO TAKE PRECAUTION AT THE GATUN MOORING AND BE AWARE

ALTHOUGH WE WASH LINES SOME STAIN WILL NOT COME OFF FROM THE LINES, THEY MAY NOTICE WHEN WE HAND OVER LINES WILL HAVE STAIN BUT WILL NOT DIRTY YOUR BOAT, HOWEVER DURING TRANSIT THEY MAY COME BACK WITH FRESH GREASE FROM THE WALL AND DIRTY YOUR YACHT

We here to request the attention and action to be taken by the Autoridad del Canal de Panamá for the following situation which is affecting sailors and agents, we have been noticing for a period of time that our lines are returning oily from the wall rails and shredded.

We have been notified from one customer the reason lines are getting shredded and also creating a dangerous scenario for sailors meanwhile at Gatun lake mooring, since it is windy and there is a lot of strain combined with the rusted mooring buoy which is requiring maintenance.

This may cause lines to break and make boats drift during night and create a higher incident to the traffic movement in Gatun.

On the other hand lines are getting a lot of grease with the locomotive railways and causing heavy stain on sailing boats hulls.

Hi Posse

We are in Port Antonio Jamaica. I’m looking for mechanic info. After wrapping a net around our props, we are down 1 engine. The travel lift here (44’ catamaran) is broken with an unknown fix date. It’s our yanmar saildrive that has the problem- beyond what we can do (we are quite handy and have rebuilt/upgraded them before). Ideas for a mechanic here or thoughts on limping to Panama? (Note- yes, cats have 2 engines but at slower speeds -docking and maneuvering- they need 2 engines. Thoughts and ideas are much appreciated.

23 ) PANAMA POSSE YACHT FOR SALE
WITH PANAMA YACHT BROKER

https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1984-passport-42-8683608/

PANAMA POSSE YACHT 1984 Passport 42 For Sale listed for $147,500.

The current owners purchased Boundless in 2017 and embarked upon a a two-year refit in preparation for cruising. The refit included replacing the engine, the majority of the onboard systems, sails and rigging, and the addition of a number of safety and convenience amenities to make the boat offshore-ready. The very knowledgeable owners have mainly lived on board since 2019 and have constantly maintained and upgraded the boat as they cruised from San Francisco to Caribbean Panama. Boundless is now represented as a turnkey vessel with all systems maintained and in working order.

Boundless is an exceptionally attractive boat, fully equipped with a no-expense-spared approach to systems and safety. The attention to detail and consistent care and maintenance are evident. Ready to go!!!

Boundless

The Passport 42 is a robust bluewater sailing vessel. Designed as a ‘cruiser/racer’ by Stan Huntingford, the Passport 42 has lively sailing characteristics while offering a safe, stable and comfortable cruising platform.

The cutter rig provides for a range of sail options, and with wide clear decks, a deep cockpit and the addition by the current owners of solid (1 ¼”) solid lifelines all around, the boat inspires confidence at sea.

The Passport carries it’s 12-foot-10-inch-wide beam well aft, providing a roomy interior for its 42 feet overall. The stern is an attractive fuller ‘double-ender’ that eliminates any ‘slap’ at anchor and does a fine job of keeping water out of the cockpit in a following sea.

https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1984-passport-42-8683608/

Underwater, the Passport 42 has a deep forefoot that blends into a fin keel with a long chord, and an elongated, molded strut with bearing to support the prop shaft. Further aft is a beefy skeg protecting the rudder. This tried-and-true configuration is reassuring to many bluewater sailors.

The fiberglass hull is thick in the right places. The lead ballast in the keel is fully encapsulated with fiberglass, which obviates the need for keel bolts. The hull is solid fiberglass below the waterline and cored with foam above. The deck is cored with encapsulated 4-inch teak squares to limit water migration.

Like most Taiwan built boats of the era, the interior shows impressive custom joinery and robust bulkheads tabbed to the hull.

This stunning example of a Passport 42, fully upgraded and ready to go must be seen in person. Come visit us in Panama, and escape the winter blues.

The
Panama Possee, of which we’ve been members for four years now, had a
big bash with pig roast and open Flor de Cana rum (yes, we bought a 1/4
case). Don and I led the very boisterous Texas Hold ’em Poker
Tournament, to which I was able to come in third (Annie from SV Cygnus
Cygnus came in 2nd, and Bram from SV Codiwomple came in 1st, winning 50%
pot and a bottle of Flor de Caña ).

2) INTRODUCING THE 🪸 CORAL POD
THE NEW ROUTE IN THE PANAMA POSSE

BELIZE

On
February 3rd, 2023, The Belize Tourism Board officially announced its
partnership with The Panama Posse, the largest Pacific based sailing
rally which comprises a fleet of over 300 sailing vessels. The fun
filled family event was hosted by the Shelter Bay Marina in Colon,
Panama and had over 100 vessels from both the South Pacific Posse and
Panama Posse in attendance.

Belize
featured a presentation highlighting destination services and
attractions. The event also marked the launch of the “Coral Pod”, the
official Panama Posse member route to Belize; complete with anchorage,
route maps, attractions and tour guide listings which are available
exclusively to Panama Posse members and can be accessed on the
https://panamaposse.com/belize page. Members of the posse were treated to local rums, Marie Sharp’s hot sauces and a special Pig Roast courtesy of Shelter Bay Marina.

Coral Pod

Belize
Tourism Board was represented by Mr. Wilber Pech, Business Development
Manager, Industry Development. A very special thank you was extended to
The Placencia Yacht Club, Hakim’s Shipyard and Thunderbird Marina for
coming onboard with special discounts for Posse members wishing to visit
Belize.

It was a magical evening and we look forward to hosting the Posse members in Belize.

3) ⚠️ PIRACY ALERT PANAMA

 Hey
guys Gabby here from Voodoo. We just got back to service and decided to
share what happened in Las Perlas, Panama. So we were anchored off isla
Contradora, I was outside having my coffee when a fellow cruiser (
"JEANNE / Ford, Michelle & Izzy their small dog )  pulled up
super close to us and told us they have been robbed and needed us to
call the police. We were not robbed but helped a fellow cruiser who was.
We told them to anchor and went over to help. This boat was anchored
off isla del ray at Isla del Espiritu Santo Panama ( it got great
reviews on navionics) at 8pm small skiff approached their boat super
fast ( so fast their dog didn't even bark). 3 men in total boarded,
before the women got outside she already had a gun in her face. They
told the couple to lie down face down in the cockpit. While one guy held
a gun to their heads the other two guys pulled EVERYTHING out of the
boat, closets, bilge, everywhere. They took anything of value. They took
tools, ipads, phones, hand held radios, everything. They took the gas
can to the dinghy (since they couldn't detach the motor). They then
made them go in the bow room and cut the vhf radio wire as they
left. We tried to find authorities at isla Contradora but there are no
police there. They told them they had to report it in Panama city. We
decided to leave after that as well since we did not want anything
similar to happened to us. The couple is fine thankfully they are not
hurt at all, but being robbed at gunpoint is very scary.  If anyone
has any questions I will try to answer them the best I can but keep in
mind I just helped them the next morning.

NOTE: We are waiting for a first hand account from the vessel

Piracy

"LOCATION:
08 25.7N 078 51.2W.   Jeanne (I think that's spelt
correctly). Ford and Michelle and Izzy the small dog. It's Fontaine
Pajot cat US flagged.

The perpetrators  were headed north after robbery the bastards."

The
boat came from the south and left to the north, Ford thinks to a small
town near there? He thinks he would recognize the panga.

They
went to Contadora police in the morning who said they only deal with
minor crime. They reported to aeronaval(?) here at La Playita Marina.
Police(?) in Panama City shut today. Reporting it on Monday." Reported
by SY MEHALA and verified by SY VODOO

Golfito Report!

There
is a small and very rustic restaurant high on the ridge above Golfito
with an awesome view. Food isn’t bad either but you are definitely
paying for the view. There is a rickety little observation platform you
can pay to go out on for an even better look down into the harbor. You
can locate this on google maps as “Mirador Las Torres

donde
Jovita”. Local people think nothing of hiking up here on a weekend
morning for excercise. It was about 5-1/4 miles from the marina. Hike or
drive the road up through the jungle is terrific. There is also a
lovely vista from an intermediate spot much closer to sea level
identified as “Mirador La Torre Cerro Adams”. The “torres” are the radio
antenna high on the ridge visible from many parts of town.

There
is an interesting boat ride, hire one or use a fast dinghy, from deep
inside Golfito Harbor through dense mangrove swamp to the mouth of the
Rio Coto. This is the protected, that is avoiding open water, route to
Zancudo. Passable...

Navigator3

Easy,
if time consuming international self-checkout in Golfito. Longest wait
is at the bank to pay for the zarpe. Standard fare: Immigration (across
the street from Samoa Hotel) then Port Captain(on access road to new
marina) then bank(top of the hill) then customs(in duty free zone past
airport), sequence not relevant for these two, then back to Port Captain
to collect your completed zarpe.

Bruce
GOLFITO

Of
course I got to immigration behind the guy with a sack of 280 passports
so that caused a delay:). If you don’t want to deal Bruce Blevins,
above, is great and can do it all. He and his staff are also
surprisingly forthcoming with all kinds of information and will tell you
exactly what you need to do even if you’re doing it yourself.
Refreshing!!
