Ocean Posse weekly calls use UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) as the scheduled reference for three key reasons:
Global Fleet Consistency
The fleet spans multiple time zones โ from yachts in Fiji or New Zealand to the Caribbean, Europe, and the Americas. UTC provides a single fixed reference that never changes with daylight saving time or regional adjustments. This keeps the schedule consistent regardless of where participants are cruising.
Maritime Standard Practice
The maritime world (including navigation, weather forecasts, and AIS systems) operates in UTC. Using UTC aligns Ocean Posse communications with nautical conventions โ captains already check GRIBs, GPS logs, and NAVTEX in UTC.
Clarity for International Calls and Events
Many members move between hemispheres or cross date lines. Listing the meeting in UTC avoids confusion โ everyone can easily convert to local time using tools like timeanddate.com or the built-in world clock on their devices.
