formerly known as the Panama Posse, is a rally of over 300 yachts
navigating the waters of the Americas, Caribbean, Atlantic, Pacific, and
Connecting Europe all the way to Oceania without set schedules. Go at
your own pace – you are never late.

mission is to support the seasonal movements of our vessels, providing

MAYAN RUINS OF
LUBAANTUN 🇧🇿 BELIZE

The
city dates from the Maya Classic era, flourishing from the AD 730s to
the 890s, and seems to have been completely abandoned soon after. The
architecture is somewhat unusual from typical Classical central lowlands
Maya sites.

The Lubaantun Mayan Ruins is a place of archeological mystery. 80% of the entire area still needs uncovered.

The mystique of the crystal skulls
has also fueled numerous speculative theories, some of which suggest
that they are relics from a lost civilization, such as Atlantis, or that
they were created by extraterrestrial beings.

6) WHEN A HALYARD SKIES OFFSHORE

…WHAT DO YOU DO ?

On
every passage there are sail changes and shifts that go smoothly or
even better than expected…and then there are the surprises.

Some
surprises are more or less demanding than others. Our most recent
surprise underway gave Captain Mike the opportunity to go up the mast
in the middle of the ocean under clear blue skies over gentle 2 meter
seas.

His
thought was, “I’d rather see what it’s like now under these conditions
in case I have to consider going up the mast in anything else.”

Last week, we sailed from the Marquesas to the Tuamotus.

Conditions
were excellent; we decided to go dead downwind and fly our Main and Jib
wing and wing. We poled out the jib, adjusted our course, set the
main, and put a preventer on it.

The boat felt rock solid sliding down waves and sailing at 9-10 knots. What to do without a potato masher.

SOLITUDE IN BAHIA SANTA ELENA
🇨🇷 COSTA RICA

Ocean Posse members along the Central American Coast, SV AEESHAH are moving north. Recently, they sailed to one of the northernmost bays in Costa Rica en route to Nicaragua.

Aside from the occasional local fisherman during the day, SV AEESHAH
was treated to total solitude. Their only company in this Costa Rican
National park was wild: howler monkeys, herons, cormorants, fish,

Daren & Darren crossed the Atlantic and are enjoying Europe on their own ship SV SMALL WORLD III

After
30+ years of work in the Seattle area, Darren being a licensed
professional civil engineer, and Karen an office manager; a plan was
hatched to sell everything they owned, buy a sailing vessel, and travel
the world. This afforded them the opportunity to retire 5-years
early, planning to return to the USA at the age of 65, when healthcare
becomes more affordable. June, 2020 their house of 20-years was
put on the market.

14) SAFETY AND SECURITY

DANA STRIKES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN

The
recent severe weather event in the Balearic Islands, known as a DANA
(Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos), caused significant damage on the
Mediterranean coast, particularly to yachts and other marine vessels,
and further ashore causing flash floods in southern cities and towns.

DANA
is a meteorological phenomenon where a pocket of cold air detaches from
the main atmospheric flow at high altitudes and moves over a warmer air
mass. Usually happens in August.

This
interaction leads to the formation of highly unstable weather
conditions, resulting in intense storms, heavy rainfall, and sometimes
hail, especially in Mediterranean regions like the Balearics.

DANA
is an example of a severe storm erupting from extreme temperature
differentials that weather forecasters are unable to predict and in this
case absolutely did not predict.

As mariners living and traveling on this ocean, this type of weather event begs us to ask:

Hurricane Beryl (/ˈbɛr.əl/) was a deadly and destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that impacted parts of the Caribbean, the Yucatán Peninsula, and the Gulf Coast of the United States in late June and early July 2024. It was the earliest-forming Category 5 hurricane on record and the second such storm in the month of July, the other being 2005's Hurricane Emily. Beryl was also the strongest hurricane to develop within the Main Development Region (MDR) of the Atlantic before the month of July. The second named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane[nb 1] of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Beryl broke many meteorological records for the months of June and July, primarily for its unusual location, intensity, and longevity.
