⚓ Peer support in emergencies with escalation procedures⚓
The Ocean Posse has many benefits high among which is the: Peer support in emergencies with escalation procedures⚓
Traveling the world by ocean AND having mariners nearby you can trust is huge. The Ocean Posse communicates on the daily with the Line Ap. Because the Ocean Posse has members spanning multiple oceans from the South Pacific to the Atlantic and as far east presently as the Baltic Sea, someone is almost always ‘listening’ to help in the case of an emergency. In the worst of emergencies (which are ultimately determined by the captain), the Ocean Posse has escalation procedure recommendations as follows:
- RADIO MAYDAY ON CHANNEL 16 Channel 16 is universally monitored across all oceans.
- ACTIVATE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS (ie EPIRB) In the utmost emergency vessel owners and/or operators will first activate their EPIRB to initiate broad scale rescue efforts. See Safety and Security section this week on Emergency Communications Systems.
IF TIME AND CIRCUMSTANCE PERMIT:Ocean Posse members have access to additional help from other Posse members who may be nearby and from Posse HQ. The Posse Team has assisted in rescue coordination and has connections in many regions with search and rescue and other resources to assist if required. Contact Dietmar to set the team in motion!
- SEND A MESSAGE OR MAYDAY ON THE LINE AP The Line Ap is the Ocean Posses direct form of contact with the group and members individually. Because the Ocean Posse has members spanning the South Pacific to the Atlantic and as far east presently as the Baltic Sea someone is almost always ‘listening’ to help in the case of an emergency.
- SEND A MESSAGE OR MAYDAY ON THE LINE AP TO CAPTAIN DIETMAR Captain Dietmar (USCG 100 t / YachMaster Ocean 200t) has spent 18 years traveling the world by ocean and has made countless contacts with maritime and government authorities to ensure the safety of the Ocean Posse Fleet.
This Ocean Posse Perk has brought great assistance in the circumstances we all hope we never have to face. There is strength in our numbers that really comes to bear when the brown stuff hits the spinny thing.
