Jamaica is a historical Caribbean island with over 300 miles of coastline and many harbors tucked in behind reefs.
Easterly trades winds dominate the cruising season with 15-25 knots. At night cool mountain air slides down the mountains to create an offshore breeze for those wanting to east. The official hurricane season lasts from June to November.
Tidal range in Jamaica is around 1 foot so not a lot of wiggle room in case of groundings.
Navigational hazards are fish traps set off the all around the coast.
Certain areas on the outskirts of Kingston are not recommended and are marked in Good Nautical.
Do not travel via land to Spanish Town, or to the “M-Zone,” within Kingston (Mountain View, Trench Town, Tivoli Gardens, Standpipe, Cassava Piece, Grants Pen, and Arnett Gardens.) and certain areas of Montego Bay (avoid Flankers, Canterbury, Norwood, Rose Heights, Clavers Street, and Hart Street.
